The Journey Begins

Welcome to my blog. On this site I plan to start publishing my thoughts on tabletop Roleplaying games, starting with my ideas for a post apocalyptic fantasy setting that will start as the basis for a series of eventual products. I will certainly write about other rpg ideas I have had, but we will start with this setting and see where it goes.

My History with RPGs

I have been playing tabletop rpgs for about a little over a decade, mostly from the GM’s side of the table. My introduction to formal RPGs was through videogames, most memorably Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic and Neverwinter Nights. This led me to a brief and mostly forgotten passage through 4th edition D&D before transferring over to Pathfinder, where I have spent the majority of my gaming career. I have tried out several other systems over time, as well as collecting many more systems than I am likely to ever run. I ran a star wars campaign using Fantasy Flight’s Edge of the Empire ruleset as well as a brief Fallout campaign in the their Genesys system.  I ran a play by post campaign in Evil Hat’s Fate Core system based off of the first Incredibles movie and have played in Call of Cthulhu, D&D 5th edition, and DCC campaigns as well.

The Campaign Setting Pitch

“A small party of expert heroes must travel through a collapsed world blasted by the radiation of its twin suns to provide for their home, using their survival skills, mastery of the magic arts, and knowledge of the past to survive.”

I plan on going more in depth in the next article, but in broad strokes here are my ideas for this setting. In the extreme corners of the galaxy unusual circumstances lead to the creation of unusual elements with seemingly magical properties. The planet that this setting is based on is one such place. It lies at a point stuck between a treo of stars, constantly being bombarded by a variety of solar energies. This improbable location has led to this planet being covered in large deposits of these strange materials, which the inhabitants have used to survive and thrive; and, in fact, used to rule a vast empire until collapsed suddenly under mysterious circumstances. This has resulted in a planet covered small settlements of survivors from a myriad of worlds and dotted with the starts of the first new cities, often built upon the ruins of the those that came before.

The Plans for this Blog

The primary purpose of this blog is to get me to write my role-playing game ideas down, something I have struggled to do in the past. To this end I don’t intend on heavily editing my articles and they will probably vary widely in both length and content. I plan on writing something to this blog about 5 times a week, even if that means just a paragraph about a idea I had during the day. My intention is to write content that is respectfully of other religions, cultures, and philosophies. That said I’m a straight white male living in America, so I probably have blind spots and I appreciate if you point those out to me as they come up.

That’s enough for the introduction. Thank you for reading and see you tomorrow.
