My world is populated by many strange creatures who have developed unique biological, technological, and cultural methods to survive on a planet that is so inherently dangerous for living things. Most of the native life developed in the great subterranean seas that exist beneath the surface. The hundreds of feet of rock, combined with the water, protect the creatures from the harsh energy and heat of the suns. Creatures who are not native to the world either have their own unique adaptions from their homes, or have come to rely on magic or technology to survive.
Native life – Sea Vents and Surface Falls
Because of the harsh conditions on the surface most life on this world is adapted to life underground. One of the most important aspects of this is that plants do not function as they do on earth. Instead of relying on sunlight for energy, most plants rely on nutrients provided by hydrothermal vents. These nutrients are pulled out of the deeper rocks by the vents and then spread by ocean currents, bring life to the far reaches of the seas as well as the shores above them. Some more hardy creatures and plants can also extract nutrients from the caustic liquids that seep down through cracks to the surface. These creatures serve an important role in filtering the dangerous energies and chemicals before it can reach other creatures.
Native Life – magical infusions
Those creatures which do survive on the surface manage it by utilizing the magical materials in the world to create natural defense from the dangers of the world. whether it be tough scales that can repel harmful energy or extreme immune systems that can cause damaged limbs to regrow at astonishing rates, these creatures have found unique ways of adapting to their environment that would not be possible without these unique materials.
Sorry for the short article this time folks. As we approach the Jewish holiday of Passover I’m finding that I have less and less time to work on this blog. Hopefully we will return to a more frequent article schedule after the holiday.
